Why oil-sealed pumps
Leybold oil-sealed vacuum pumps are used across every field of vacuum engineering and are equally suited to industrial production and research applications.
Oil-sealed vacuum pumps are favoured for their reliability, low cost and proven technology. The use of oil allows a higher compression ratio and better internal cooling behaviour. Oil-sealed vacuum pumps have proven their performance in demanding applications such as food, heat treatment and coating, as well as their reliability in long-cycle applications such as mass spectrometry.
Among the various vacuum pump technologies, rotary pumps are classed as positive displacement pumps. Leybold oil-sealed vacuum pumps work by mechanically trapping a volume of gas and moving it through the pump, creating a low pressure on the inlet side.
They are often called “wet” pumps because the gas being pumped is exposed to the oil used as a lubricant to reach a lower ultimate pressure. The oil is carefully selected and specifically designed for the application.
Vane pumps are built in single-stage and two-stage versions. Two-stage pumps reach lower ultimate pressures than single-stage pumps.
Oil pumps tolerate water vapour well when the gas ballast is opened. To extend the service life of your vacuum pumps, change the oil as part of your routine maintenance Tehnogama.
Advantages
- High compression ratio thanks to oil sealing
- Better internal cooling and stable operation
- Good water vapour tolerance with gas ballast
- Proven technology and low investment cost
- Proven in long-cycle applications
Maintenance
Changing the oil and the oil filter as part of routine maintenance directly extends the pump’s service life and keeps the ultimate pressure within design limits.
