A safety valve opens at the set pressure and discharges the flow that prevents any further pressure rise in the system — it is the last line of protection for the receiver and the equipment.
It is selected according to the set pressure and the required discharge capacity, with the documentation required for pressure equipment inspection.
The valve is tested periodically; a stuck valve is the failure with the most serious consequences in the whole plant.
