PSA generators use a carbon molecular sieve that retains oxygen and lets nitrogen through, and the alternating operation of two columns gives a continuous flow of high-purity nitrogen.
The higher the purity specified, the more compressed air is used per cubic metre of nitrogen — so purity is set to the process’s actual requirement, not with a margin.
